Frequently asked questions

Price, platforms, requirements, support and switching: the questions people ask before they choose MuteCloud.

What does MuteCloud cost?

Nothing. MuteCloud is completely free, for small and large networks alike, with every feature including the shield, the dashboard and the cluster. There is no paid edition and no player limit.

Is MuteCloud open source?

Not yet. The source code is not public for now, but there are plans to publish it. Every release is signed, and the cloud verifies the signature before it installs an update.

When is MuteCloud released, and how long is it supported?

MuteCloud will be published in October 2026 and receives active support for at least one year, until October 2027. Details are on the updates page.

Which operating systems does it run on?

Linux and Windows, on 64-bit x86 machines. A VPS at any hosting provider, a dedicated server, a cloud instance or a machine at home all work, as long as players can reach one port. ARM machines are not supported yet.

How much RAM and CPU do I need?

The cloud itself needs around 10 MB of RAM; everything else goes to your game servers. A small network starts at 2 cores and 4 GB, a network with around 100 players on a current version is comfortable with 8 cores and 24 GB. The calculator gives you a suggestion for your own setup.

Do I have to install Java?

No. MuteCloud downloads the Java version each group needs and keeps it next to the cloud. Java 8 for a 1.8 server and Java 25 for a current one run side by side.

Which Minecraft versions and server software are supported?

Minecraft 1.8 through the current version, on Paper, Purpur, Folia, Leaf, Pufferfish, PandaSpigot, Fabric and Vanilla, with Velocity or BungeeCord as the proxy. Different versions can run in the same network.

I already use CloudNet, TimoCloud or SimpleCloud. Can I switch?

Yes. mutecloud migrate reads the existing installation and takes over groups, templates, persistent servers and network settings, without changing anything in the old one. See migration and the comparison.

Can I go back if it does not suit me?

Yes. The migration only reads, so the old installation stays complete. Stop MuteCloud, start the previous cloud, and the network is where it was.

Does MuteCloud protect my network from attacks?

It has a built-in shield that stops attacks aimed at Minecraft itself: bot waves, ping floods, login floods and malformed packets. A pure bandwidth flood that fills the line to your machine has to be filtered by your hosting provider; no software on the machine itself can stop that.

Can I run several machines as one network?

Yes. Further machines join as nodes of a cluster with a single code, and the cloud places servers wherever memory is free.

Do my plugins keep working?

Your own plugins and worlds are carried over unchanged. Plugins that talk to the API of another cloud system have to be adapted to the MuteCloud bridge API, which covers the same ground: server lists, player counts, connecting players and events.

Where do I get help?

On Discord. Questions, bug reports and feature requests are all welcome there, and so is simply showing your network. Keep the cloud up to date, since support always starts from the current release.
